New to TVNZ OnDemand in April

TVNZ OnDemand will stream the reboot of Kung Fu the same day as it airs on The CW network in the US (weekly from April 8).

Unlike the original, it is set in the present, not the Wild West, and stars The Vampire Diaries’ Olivia Laing as a young Chinese-American who returns home after a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China.

There she finds her hometown of San Francisco overrun with crime and corruption, and her parents at the mercy of a powerful triad, while the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor is now targeting her.

An early review dubbed it “a high-kicking, uneven reimagining of the martial arts classic”.

Creamerie (full season from April 19) is a Kiwi dystopian series set in a world where all the men have been wiped out by a plague … until three dairy farmers accidentally run over someone who has a beard and a “disturbing growth” between their legs.

Ally Xue, Perlina Lau, JJ Fong, Jay Ryan and Kimberley Crossman star alongside a raft of other big names yet to be announced.

The End (April 22) is an Australian series about mother and daughter with polar opposite views on euthanasia.

Frances O’Connor plays a senior registrar specialising in palliative care medicine who puts her mother (Harriet Walter), a right-to-die advocate, in living hell: a retirement village.

The Guardian praised the 10-part series, which premiered last month on Foxtel, as a “spiky, witty drama on death that sometimes shifts into the absurd”.

Nurses (April 30) is a Canadian drama about  five young nurses on the front lines of a busy downtown hospital while Burden of Truth (April 7) is a 10-part  drama about a lawyer (Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk) who returns to her hometown to investigate a mysterious illness that targets high school girls.

Other premieres will include The Watch (April 2), Manifest S3 (weekly from April 2), David Bowie: Finding Fame (April 1), Unforgotten S1-2 (April 1), The Fall S1-3 (April 12), The Bridge S1-2 (April 4), The White Queen and The White Princess (April 14).

Returning for new seasons on HEIHEI will be George and ME (April 5) and Jandal Burn (April 12) while new to TVNZ OnDemand’s branded channels will be:
