New to TVNZ OnDemand in October

A Sky Original mini-series that’s streaming on Paramount+ in Australia will premiere here on TVNZ OnDemand.

Two Weeks to Live (October 30) stars Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams as an isolated young woman who, 15 years after witnessing her father’s murder, escapes her controlling mother’s clutches only to wind up being stalked by killers.

The Guardian dubbed it “a dark, sideways comedy with shades of Killing Eve” while The Age praised its “comic book brutality, snarky dialogue and a mordant sense of humour”.

The reviews for Chapelwaite (October 31) were more mixed. Based on Stephen King’s short story “Jerusalem’s Lot”, this period horror stars Adrien Brody as a newly widowed 1850s sea captain who confronts dark family secrets when he relocates his children to their ancestral home in small-town Maine.

Said Rotten Tomatoes: “Chapelwaite‘s drab proceedings are stretched a bit thin over 10 episodes, but those looking for an atmospheric whodunit with a few genuine frights could do worse.”

The Pact (October 18) is a new local drama about an elderly matriarch (Irene Wood) who wants to end her life.

Each episode is told through the eyes of a different member of her shellshocked family as they struggle to come to terms with her decision – and make some life-changing (or life-ending) decisions of their own.

Streaming weekly will be new seasons of Back to Life (October 1), Young Sheldon (October 8), Batwoman (October 14), Legacies (October 15), The Bachelorette (October 20), All American (October 26) and Love Life ( October 28).

S2 of Love Life, which will premiere with three episodes, will focus on a new main character, with Emmy nominee William Jackson Harper (The Underground Railroad) replacing Anna Hendrick as the lead.

Making their full-series debuts will be Superstore (October 9), The Mindy Project (October 9) and Mr Robot (October 22).

New from October 2 will be the feature-length documentaries:

  • Bludgeon: Orcas of the LandA group of medieval combat enthusiasts from New Zealand hope to make the national team for an international competition.
  • The Dakota Entrapment Tapes: The investigation in the disappearance and death of a student in North Dakota reveals an abuse of power by law enforcement on a huge scale.
  • Repeat Attenders: The lengths the theatre world’s ‘super fans’ will go to illustrate their devotion to the hit shows and the stars that appear on the world stages.
