New Trailers from Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix
Prime Video will premiere director Adrian (Fatal Attraction) Lyne’s first movie in 20 years, the erotic thriller Deep Water, on March 18.
Based on the Patricia Highsmith novel of the same name, it stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas as an affluent New Orleans couple whose marriage is crumbling under the weight of resentment, jealousy, and mistrust.
As their mutual provocations and mind games escalate, things quickly turn into a deadly game of cat and mouse as her extramarital dalliances start to disappear.
Prime Video also has posted its first teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which will stream from September 2. Reads the burb:
This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
It was promoted during yesterday’s Super Bowl telecast, as was the new Marvel series, Moon Knight, which will stream from March 30. Reads the blurb:
The story follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy star.
Disney+ also has unveiled the trailer for the new Amy Schumer comedy, Life & Beth, which will stream shortly under the Star banner.
The 10-part series, about a successful wine distributor in a long-term relationship whose life changes forever when a sudden incident forces her to confront her past, is billed as an adult tale of “trauma, comedy and moving forward”.
And out from Netflix is the first look at S2 of Bridgerton, which will stream from March 25. Reads the blurb:
The second season of Bridgerton follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.
