New Walking Dead for TVNZ 2

TVNZ 2 will premiere the latest Walking Dead spin-off on June 19.

Walking Dead: Dead City will screen 10.35 Mondays in a slot previously allocated for the linear broadcast of TVNZ+ series Poker Face.

Moreover, it was meant to be one of the prized gems of the AMC+ streaming service here before the platform was strip-mined of content for tax write-downs and third-party revenue from global licensees like TVNZ and Nine in Australia (where it will stream on Stan).

The Walking Dead: Dead City follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan cut off from the mainland. Reads the blurb:

The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. While in the city, Maggie and Negan encounter native New Yorkers, evade a marshal with a troubled past, and hunt down a notorious killer.

But as the pair moves deeper into the gritty depths of the walker-infested city, it becomes apparent that the traumas of their tumultuous past may prove just as great a threat as the dangers of the present.

There are layers to Maggie and Negan’s troubles, starting with their rocky history and topped with mutated walker-monsters and a killer on the loose, as well as navigating a newly formed apocalyptic society living on rooftops.

Dead City will be a wild ride glistening with both nostalgia and the previously untouched skyscrapers of Manhattan.

Expect more Walking Dead spin-offs to land on TVNZ 2, including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and an untitled Rick and Michonne series.
