NZ Blu-ray Sales Surge

The value of Blu-ray sales more than tripled in NZ last year, according to data research firm GfK.

Sydney-based senior account manager Brendan Dowd told DVD Industry Blu-ray sales of $5.3 million helped to offset the decline in DVD revenue, which was down nearly 5% on 2008’s $166 million.

“The average price had a decline of nine percent, which meant that although units were increasing, the overall value saw a decline on 2008.”

The report also notes while sales of TV-on-DVD titles dropped, shows with Kiwis — Billy T James, Outrageous Fortune, Flight of the Conchords — sold well.
