One of Us One of TVNZ 1’s

TVNZ 1 will premiere the latest series from the writers of The Missing on February 19.

One of Us will air 8.30 Sundays ahead of the next season of The Missing’s premiere next month in what at this stage is meant to be a 9.30 Monday slot (as the lead-out from Our Girl successor APB).

It aired as a four-part drama in the UK but TVNZ 1 appears to be screening it in two two-hour instalments.

Revolving around a horrific double murder that rocks the lives of two families living side-by-side in rural Scotland, it stars Game of Thrones’ Joe Demise, Adrian Edmondson and Juliet Stevenson.

“What a clever little thriller this is shaping up to be,” said Radio Times.

“We start with an horrific killing, look straight into the eyes of the desperate drug-crazed murderer of a beautiful young couple Adam and Grace (who is pregnant) and … then what? Where can it go from here?”

It likened the series to The Killing and Reservoir Dogs, and dubbed the performances “first rate, even if a lot of the acting requires rather a lot of frenetic emoting as this horror story unfolds”.

Said The Telegraph: “Happily the pace picked up midway through and little by little One of Us evolved into a modern-day country house murder mystery with all the family members’ families gathered together and trapped by deteriorating weather with a murderer at large – who simply had to be one of them.”

“In its intricate construction,” The Independent argued, “One of Us reminds me of one of those early classic Columbo episodes – to my mind never really bettered …

“So thanks to the BBC for spending the money on this, and praise goes to writers Harry and Jack Williams, director William McGregor, and producer Colin Wratten.”
