Oscar-winners to Bow on Blu-ray
The last of this year’s Oscar winners will be unchained on Blu-ray over the next three months.
Beasts of the Southern Wild will be first, on April 24, followed by Life of Pi on May 1, Les Miserables on May 9, Django Unchained on June 6, Lincoln on June 12 and Amour on July 24.
Most of these already are on sale in the US, where Django goes out next week and Lincoln topped the Blu-ray sales chart last week in its first week.
Said High-Def Digest of the Lincoln release: “This is as good as Blu-ray gets.” (The artistry of Lincoln’s director and cinematographer also shines in this week’s Blu-ray release of Schindler’s List.)
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has yet to schedule the only other Oscar-winner, Zero Dark Thirty, but has confirmed for Django:
- Deleted scenes
- Django Unchained Music Selection
- Remembering J. Michael Riva: The Production Design of Django Unchained
- Reimagining the Spaghetti Western: The Horses & Stunts of Django Unchained
- The Costume Designs of Sharen Davis
- Django Unchained Soundtrack Promo
Also of historical Oscar note are the 10th Anniversary Edition of Whale Rider, which earned Keisha Castle-Hughes a best actress nomination (April 24); The Master (four nominations but no wins) on May 15; Flight (two nominations) on June 12; and, on May 1, Sunset Boulevard, an Audrey Hepburn collection that includes her Oscar-nominated turns in Sabrina and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the 1954 Rear Window, which didn’t win any of its four nominations.

Saw most of these in the theatre and frankly the only one I want to see again is Django Unchained.
