Oz Bachelor Gets the Boot on Eve of Kiwi Bachelor’s Bow

The Bachelor Australia is the second new-season casualty TV2 has dispatched to off-peak within almost as many days.

Following Friday’s announcement that Wednesday’s Agent Carter would be shifting back an hour, to 10.30, this afternoon TV2 said it was rescheduling The Bachelor Australia to Saturday afternoons and replacing its 7.30 Friday broadcast with re-runs of Mom and The Big Bang Theory.

Mom is being repeated again from season one (it originally re-ran late-night over summer) while TBBT repeats start from episode one of season seven.

The changes take effect from this weekend, which means the movie Sex and the City will now screen from 8.30 Friday instead of 9.00.

The Bachelor Australia will screen 2.05pm Saturday instead of the previously listed movie, Under the Mountain.

Programmers made the decision after reviewing Friday’s ratings, where The Bachelor averaged only 2.4% – 4.4% of the commercial demographics and was narrowly beaten in TV2’s target demo — 18-39 — by TV3’s low-rating Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year: South America.

The latter has rated woefully since its launch but is only a limited-run series and on March 27 will be replaced by possibly the new Jono and Ben show, which is why TV2 will want to get a head-start on taking ownership of the slot.

Both the latest seasons of Mom and TBBT also need as much promotion as they can get for their new slots, with viewership down on last year (although their channel shares remain solid).

Meanwhile, TV3’s own version of The Bachelor goes to air later this month.
