Prime Rounds Up Sheep Sleuths

If you’ve already binged the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm, Prime Video has a new rural romp for you.

Landing today, as a baa-lated addition to its June schedule, is the movie The Sheep Detectives, which includes Rhys Darby voicing the shaggiest of sheep and Hugh Jackman as a shepherd who reads whodunits aloud to his beloved flock.

When he dies in mysterious circumstances, the sheep become a new breed of detective and set out to prove why no killer can pull the wool over their eyes.

The rest of the cast includes Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Tosin Cole, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey and Brett Goldstein.

Craig Mazin, who’s best know for The Last of Us and Chernobyl, adapted the novel Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann.

The movie was a box office hit in Australia and mustered nearly $1 million here.

Prime Video hasn’t confirmed the streaming resolution but hopefully it will be 4K-UHD, like most of its Amazon MGM Studios releases.

Critics liked rather than loved it but families couldn’t wish for better school holiday fodder.

View the trailer here and this interview with Jackman and Clarkson’s Farm’s Kaleb Cooper, who hates sheep (unless they’re easy care).
