Prime to Go HD on Freeview

Sky has confirmed Prime will start broadcasting in HD on the Freeview platform as soon as next month.

Full details are expected to be released next week but the confirmation is good news for viewers who don’t subscribe to Sky’s satellite service or Vodafone TV, hitherto the only platforms on which you could view Prime in HD.

The transmission will be in full HD (1920 x 10890i), unlike the recent upgrades of Sky channels Comedy Central and MTV (which are 1440 x 1080i).

Thanks to regular reader Leo for alerting me to the upgrade after learning of  it from a Geekzone forum.

The changeover should occur in time for Prime’s free-to-air premieres of Chernobyl and The Radical Story of Patty Hearst.

Next week also will see two more Sky channels go HD (1440 x 1080i): BBC Earth and BBC UKTV, both from December 4.

Cheers for the confirmation and mention, Philip. I never thought this day would come but it’s finally happening. Fingers crossed LIVE streaming isn’t too far off as well.
