PVR Works Magic With Consumer

Magic TV is the pick of the HD-capable PVRs assessed in the latest issue of Consumer magazine.

It earns an overall score of 87%, compared with 78% for MySky HDi and Homecast HT92000DTR, and 77% for TiVo’s NZ media unit.

All received Consumer’s “tick” of approval, unlike the Zinwell ZMT-640PVR and JC Matthew DVR-320T, which ranked fifth and sixth, on 71% and 69%.

All but the JC Matthew were neck-and-neck for performance but Magic TV was well ahead of the rest for ease of use whereas TiVo was judged to be “relatively difficult to use”.

Consumer also was disappointed with TiVo’s downloading service, CASPA, because of its limited film range and SD-only content, and highlighted MySky HDi’s “confusing” pricing structure.

Magic TV also recently won a four-way PVR shoot-out in the NZ Herald.
