Q+A Quashes Newshub Nation
In the run up to the general election, TVNZ 1’s Q+A is beating Three’s Newshub Nation in a landslide for the 25-54 vote.
Sunday morning’s Q+A averaged 26,061 viewers in the core commercial demographic vs 5,512 for Newshub Nation’s Saturday morning broadcast and 2,899 for its 9.55am Sunday repeat.
Despite its off-peak slot, Q+A was TVNZ 1’s ninth most-watched show of the day and across all channels ranked 14th.
TVNZ 1 dominated with seven of the top 10 shows, led by 1 News (162,652), Hyundai Country Calendar (120,832) and Sunday (76,134).
Newshub Live at 6pm finished fourth (75,287) and Three’s Bondi Rescue (62,524) followed TVNZ 1’s The Chase (74,237).
The only TVNZ 2 top 10 entry was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (58,698).
Three’s movie, Bad Boys for Life, averaged 29,362 viewers opposite TVNZ 1’s George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations (51,989) and the 9.35 premiere of For Her Sins (19,325).
TVNZ 2’s 9.45 re-run of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown averaged 25,138 viewers.
TVNZ 1’s peak demo share was 29.55, Three’s 16.40 share and TVNZ 2’s 13.99.
On Saturday, live sport crushed the three major FTA networks, with TVNZ 1’s peak demo share plummeting to 12.31, Three’s to 8.74 and TVNZ 2’s to 7.96.
TVNZ 1 led Friday night, with 7.30 warhorse The Repair Shop drawing 10,000 more 25-54 year-olds than TVNZ 2’s The Farmer Wants a Wife while Three’s The Traitors UK sunk to just 20,030.
But Three’s movie, The Expendables 2 (23,541), squashed TVNZ 2’s Spider-man 2 (15,930).
On Thursday, TVNZ 1’s peak demo share (30.06) was roughly double Three’s (16.48) and TVNZ 2’s (14.30).
Once again, Traitors was Three’s weak link, allowing TVNZ 1’s The Great Australian Bake-off to dominate with 63,604 viewers — 35,000 more than the UK contest and nearly 20,000 more than TVNZ 2’s Hunted Australia.
