Schedule Watch: April 20

The networks have made a raft of last-minute changes to their schedules, including an extended Easter Monday broadcast of Dancing With the Stars.

The 90-minute special will now air from 7.00, pre-empting a new episode of Modern Family to face off against TVNZ 2’s Shortland Street and get a half-hour head-start on challenger My Kitchen Rules.

Tonight, TVNZ 1 is bumping the overnight repeat of The Great Gatsby to 11.15, so it now precedes re-runs of Blindspot and Rizzoli & Isles.

On Tuesday, TVNZ 1’s previously advertised true-crime documentary The Parachute Murder Plot is being replaced by a repeat of season one of The History of Comedy — hopefully as the curtain-raiser for S2’s premiere.

And on Wednesday,TVNZ 2 is usurping Young Sheldon at 7.30 for an earlier broadcast of The Big Bang Theory while screening at 8.00 will be the comedy special, Stand Up for Christchurch.

Nazeem Hussain will host a line-up that includes Urzila Carlson, Cal Wilson, Dave Hughes, Joel Creasey, Peter Helliar, Jimeon and Arj Barker.

The 90-minute Stand Up also will pre-empt Whiskey Cavalier.

And from May 2, Whiskey Cavalier also will air 8.30 Thursdays, pushing back Take Me Out to 9.25.

Meanwhile, booked for The Ellen DeGeneres Show (TVNZ 1, 9am/4pm weekdays) are: Addy Tritt (Monday), Kristen Bell, Martha Trujillo and Kimberly Patel (Tuesday), and Lily Tomlin and Teyana Taylor (Wednesday).

And due on Prime’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert are:

  • Robert De Niro, Beth Behrs and an analysis of the Mueller Report by lawyer Neal Katyal (11.15 Monday)
  • Chris Hayes and Nico Parker (11.30 Tuesday)
  • Elizabeth Warren and Tony Hale (10.30 Wednesday)
  • Emilia Clarke, Henry Winkler, and a musical performance by H.E.R. (12.30am Friday)
  • Charles Barkley and Tig Notaro (11.30 Friday)
  • Zach Galifianakis, Rep. Eric Swalwell, and a musical performance by Ellie Goulding (11.45, April 29).

Finally, on April 28, Prime’s 60 Minutes (9.30) will feature an interview with palace intrigue queen Nancy Pelosi and Anderson Cooper going behind the scenes of Game of Thrones.
