Sky Brings Home the Premier League Trophy

One of sport’s most iconic trophies will be the centrepiece of a pop-up Sky studio in Auckland to celebrate the rise in popularity of Premier League on Sky Sport and Sky Open.
Sky reports viewership of Premier League is up 20% season-on-season while digital engagement has jumped 25% across Sky Sport Now and Sky Go.
Here’s the media release:
Premier League trophy to visit New Zealand for the first time, as Kiwi football fandom continues to rise
Sky is bringing one of world sport’s most iconic pieces of silverware to local fans, with the Premier League Trophy set to visit New Zealand for the first time ever.
Football supporters will have the rare opportunity to see the Trophy up close as Sky – the exclusive broadcaster of the Premier League in New Zealand – unveils a fully immersive pop‑up Sky Sport Studio in the heart of Auckland’s CBD.
The Trophy stands over a metre tall, weighs more than 25 kilograms, and features the engraved history of every champion club, making it one of the most recognisable and sought‑after prizes in world sport.
For more than three decades, it has symbolised excellence in the world’s most-watched football league.
Sky’s open‑air studio experience will run from 9am to 3pm on Sunday 22 March in Te Komititanga Square, right outside Commercial Bay.
Fans will be able to sit behind the Sky Sport desk, snap a photo with the Trophy, and take in a full day of Premier League‑themed activity.
Sky will also screen the latest Premier League match, Leeds United vs Brentford, live in the square from 9am.
Mark Trowill, Sky Sport’s Marketing Lead, said the event is a landmark moment for football fans across Aotearoa.
“The Premier League Trophy is one of the most recognisable symbols in global sport, and this is the first time Kiwi fans will have the chance to experience it in person.
“Sky is incredibly proud to bring the excitement and prestige of the Premier League to New Zealand in such a unique, fan‑first way.”
The visit comes as New Zealand engagement for the Premier League continues to rise. The number of people watching Premier League on Sky Sport and Sky Open is up 20 per cent this season compared to last year, with digital engagement up 25 per cent across Sky Sport Now and Sky Go.
“We know how deep the love of football runs in Aotearoa, and this opportunity brings fans right into the heart of the action,” Trowill says.
“Whether you’re coming for a photo, to watch the match live on the big screen, or just to score some Premier League merch, we’re expecting some big numbers to descend on Te Komititanga Square for what will be a truly special day.”
