Sky Comedy to Premiere UK ‘Girls’

An award-winning British comedy series that’s been likened to HBO’s Girls will screen 8.30 Mondays from December 8 on Sky Comedy.
The new channel launches Tuesday with a retro-heavy schedule but among the newcomers will be Such Brave Girls.
The six-part series aired on BBC Three two years ago and won two 2024 BAFTA Awards, including best comedy; the second season screened this year.
It stars creators Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson as sisters (which they are in real life) and Louise Brealey as their mother, all struggling with debt, dysfunctionalism and abandonment issues.
“With off-beat humour, zippy dialogue, and intelligently posed questions about what ‘girlhood’ means, Such Brave Girls is reminiscent of Lena Dunham’s Girls,” Slate said.
And like that show, it will likely ruffle more than a few feathers, not least because of its repeated jokes about suicide. It’s honest to the point of abrasive, and at times downright ridiculous. But it’s also wickedly funny and looks mental illness dead in the eye with a daring grin.
Other reviews ranged from “singular, fresh, scabrous and unflinching” (The Guardian) and “hilarious pitch-black comedy” (The Age) to “dark, messy, and full of precisely the kind of pathos that keeps you laughing as you wince” (Time).
While The Telegraph thought it a “gross-out sitcom that gets bogged down in Gen Z mental-health speak … over the course of a few episodes it grew on me a bit, because Sadler – who has said the series was inspired by her own breakdown – sends up this self-absorption.”
