Sky Comings and Goings

Sky has announced the newly created role of Chief Business Officer the same day it farewells a veteran media executive.

Lauren Quaintance has resigned as Sky’s Chief Media and Data Officer while Juliet Peterson, previously the Head of Networks (Australia and New Zealand) at Warner Bros. Discovery, is becoming the CBO.

She will oversee Sky’s advertising revenue generation and B2B activities, including the Sky Free channels and services, Sky Sales, and the Sky Business team who deliver Sky services to hospitality and accommodation clients.

Her priorities will include growing advertising revenue and diversifying revenue streams.

“Her many years of experience in the New Zealand free-to-air market are highly valuable as we look to maximise the potential of our new Sky Free business, which has positioned Sky to scale faster and to grow and further diversify our revenue streams, particularly in advertising and digital,” Sky Chief Executive Sophie Moloney says.

“As we have noted previously, Sky and Sky Free are operating as standalone businesses while we work through a careful integration programme.

“As well as continuing to lead all aspects of the Sky Free business during this time, Juliet will provide leadership across our advertising and B2B teams on both sides of the business from 1 September 2025.”

Says Peterson: “I’m a true believer in the power of creating and curating local television platforms that deliver what New Zealand viewers want to watch, and can’t wait to build on the legacy of Three and the broader Sky Free business.”

Until Quaintance exits at the end of August, she will remain involved in a strategic capacity, supporting the integration of Sky Free (formerly Discovery NZ) through to January 2026.

“Lauren’s vision for expanding Sky’s advertising capability and market share was a key driver in our strategic acquisition of Discovery NZ,” Moloney says.

“As someone who is passionate about the importance of local media the Discovery NZ deal is a career highlight, but it’s also a natural juncture for me personally,” Quaintance says.

“With a growing portfolio of board roles and a desire to split my time between Sydney and the South Island, this feels like the right moment to step away.”

She also has significant expertise in sport, tourism and marketing, as an independent director for Turners Automotive (NZX) and the Crusaders Super Rugby franchise, and chair of the economic development agency ChristchurchNZ.
