Sky Confirms HD for The Zone
This morning Sky confirmed its new sci-fi/fantasy channel The Zone will be in HD.
It will launch on November 3 on Channel 016 and be accessible in HD for subscribers with a MySky HDi and an HD ticket.
Unlike SoHo, Sky won’t implement a double pay wall and charge HD subscribers an extra $10 a month for The Zone.
“This is the first time that a channel available as part of Sky’s basic package will be made available in HD but we knew it was important for our fans,” The Zone channel manager Chris Philpott said in the press release.
“Series such as Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated vampire horror, The Strain, and sci-fi drama Defiance were made to be screened in HD.
“It’s been the number one question since we announced the channel was coming and we’re really chuffed to have been able to make this happen.”
Like SoHo, The Zone will screen key shows as close as possible to their to international premieres. It will cover everything from sci-fi and superhero to horror and cult zones
Titles announced so far include newcomers From Dusk Till Dawn, Dracula, Alphas, Continuum, Teen Wolf, Star-Crossed and series that hitherto largely have screened here only in SD, including Grimm, Falling Skies, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Misfits and Eureka.
Fans can continue to interact with The Zone team and find out more about what will screen on the channel with weekly updates on The Zone’s facebook page Facebook.com/TheZoneTV and Twittertwitter.com/TheZoneNZ.
YAY, that’s fantastic news… SO can’t wait 🙂
Awesome news. I can’t wait, either. Just wish Prime was in HD so that I could watch Doctor Who in HD. I have no interest in downloading this show. I will watch the series on Prime and then buy the series on Blu-ray.
