Sky Double-Bills Doppelgängers

Sky’s come up with a doozey of a pop-up movie channel for June: Original v Remake.

The season will run from June 18-21 and feature:

• Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1957) vs Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
• Death at a Funeral (2007) vs Death at a Funeral (2010)
• The Adddams Family (1991) vs The Addams Family (2019)
• RoboCop (1987) vs RoboCop (2014)
• The Magnificent Seven (1960) vs The Magnificent Seven (2016)
• The Terminator (1984) vs Terminator Genisys (2015)
• The Pink Panther (1963) vs The Pink Panther (2006)
• Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior vs Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

In most cases, the classic easily triumphs the wannabe, the notable exception being the Body Snatchers face-off: Don Siegel’s version is still tops but Philip Kaufman’s is a vintage spine-tingler with it own unique identity borne of ’70s paranoia.

The stunt’s also a chance to see in HD golden-age movies that too often are consigned in SD to the Vintage Movies channel.
