Sky Kicks Off Rugby Giveaway

First Sky canned its HD Ticket. Then it offered SoHo free to subscribers of its sport and/or entertainment packages. Next: Rugby Channel content will be free to all Sky Sport subscribers ahead of Spark and TVNZ’s Rugby World Cup coverage.

“Great news – we’re making all our rugby content (that was previously on the Rugby Channel) available to all Sky Sport customers at no extra cost,” media engagement manager and self-proclaimed All Blacks fanatic Kristy Martin says in an email to media.

“Additional rugby content has been available via the Rugby Channel for $8.81 a month. We’ve decided to give that rugby content to all Sky Sport customers at no extra cost from 1 August.

“This change is the first of a number of changes coming to Sky Sport in August, and we look forward to sharing more on those soon.”

There’s no doubt sports fans are benefitting under new Sky chief executive Martin Stewart’s leadership, with initiatives like this and more free-to-air sport on Prime.

Fingers crossed news, entertainment and movie subscribers start to get a better deal, from removing the paywall to Arts and Rialto to upgrading these channels, Vintage Movies, the BBC channels and others to HD ahead of providing yet more sports channels in HD.
