Sky Open Ondemand in the Works

Sky hopes to be able to offer Sky Open content on demand later in the year.

Regular contributor Leo recently asked why this isn’t already possible given Sky Open live streams on ThreeNow, which Sky took over as part of its Warner Bros. Discovery NZ acquisition.

Sky added Sky Open to the ThreeNow platform to broaden free-to-air viewership of the Milano Winter Olympics.

“Putting the Sky Open channel on ThreeNow is an effective way to bring Sky Open content to the ThreeNow audience, and we have already seen pleasing engagement from the ThreeNow audience, particularly with the recent Winter Olympics coverage,” a spokeswoman says.

“We intend to expand this approach to include on‑demand content once the technical work to bring together Sky and Sky Free [ex-WBD] broadcast infrastructure is completed later in the year.

“We will share more detail in due course about which titles and genres will be available.”

  1. Cheers Philip for the write up and for asking about this. I do hope it’s sooner rather than later. — Leo.

  2. About time. — Aaron.

  3. I hope it goes the other way too. Having to login to ThreeNow via the new Sky box is clunky and adds an extra layer to access content. Perhaps ThreeNow will replace the HBOMax tab on the menu? Or will HBOMax now not disappear given Paramount will retain HBO as a brand and the recent Paramount-Sky expansion? — Mike.

  4. Have reached out to WBD for comment on HBO Max’s future in NZ but still no response.

  5. Pleased to hear this is finally in the works. Prime and Sky Open have been anomolies in their lack of on-demand viewability. — Dave.
