NEW AND NOTABLE
Sky Sport Presents The Pod – fascinating exclusive new in-depth interviews with playmakers in the world of sport
Episode One: Ian Smith speaks with Sir Steve Hansen (Sky Sport 3, Thursday 8.30)
Ian Smith, one of New Zealand’s most respected broadcasters, was delighted to have the opportunity to talk with Sir Steve Hansen – naturally on a virtual basis, and New Zealand gets to see their wide-ranging conversation.
“Arguably Sir Steve is the most successful All Blacks coach in our lifetime”, says ‘Smithy’. “We’ve spent a fair bit of time talking with each other on the sideline pre- and post- some of the most nail-biting matches ever, but The Pod has given me the chance to sit down with the man (over Zoom), relax and really get inside this head and ask some of the tough questions. I’m excited to share the result with New Zealanders on Sky Sport.”
The Pod will focus initially on high profile figures in New Zealand sport such as Sir Richard Hadlee, Dame Noeline Taurua and Sean Marks. The interviewer’s mic will circulate among the Sky Sport team including Smith, Jeff Wilson and Bernadine Oliver-Kerby.
Tex Teixeira, Sky’s Chief Content Officer says, “I’m proud of the way our team has stepped up to produce some great content for our customers under pretty trying circumstances. Some of the shows we are putting together remotely are tried and true – like The Breakdown and Crowd Goes Wild, while some are brand new such as Isolation Nation and Iso Net.
“Then there are others, like The Pod and Warriors TV – which we’ve been working on for a while but have brought forward to fill the gap left by live sport. We are ready and raring to go when sport is able to be played safely – but in the meantime, we are pulling out all the stops to ensure Sky Sport feeds the need of fans throughout the country.”
The Breakdown (Sky Sport 1, 8.30 Tuesday): This week the team is joined by Peter FitzSimons to address the mountain of issues that face our friends across the ditch. Tim Horan joins the panel to shed light on THAT letter and Steven Luatua dials in all the way from the UK. All the usual suspects including special guest Justin Marshall, joining you for the first show in lockdown Level 3!
