Sneak Peek: TVNZ OnDemand October to January

David Tennant plays a serial killer in Des, a true-crime dramatisation that will premiere on TVNZ OnDemand in the spring.
It depicts how the “hugely damaged” Dennis Nilsen manipulated his victims, the police and the media between 1978 and 1983, when he murdered several boys and men.
The three-part series will go to air on ITV within the next three months.
Also new will be Boys, an ’80s drama from Russell T. Davies (Years and Years) about the impact of AIDS on the lives of three young men.
It’s billed as the story of “the epidemic, the pain of rejection and the prejudices that gay men faced throughout the decade”.
Olly Alexander, Neil Patrick Harris, Keeley Hawes, Stephen Fry, Tracy Ann Oberman and Shaun Dooley star.
Expect it to stream from January, as Channel Four isn’t expected to air it until early next year.
Other highlights unveiled last month to media buyers included Anika Moa Reunited, which is named after her reunion with some off the biggest acts in NZ music, and the return of Why Women Kill (S2), Manifest (S3), Young Sheldon (S4), Batwoman (S2), Legacies (S3) and Wu-Tang: An American Saga (S2).

Does anyone have the rights to HBO Max content in NZ? I see TVNZ has Love Life but who knows where the other content is going to end up. I’m looking forward to Raised By Wolves which I believe is a perfect fit for Sky and its SoHo channels! However, nobody appears to have it currently and I did ask Sky.
Chances are it will be TVNZ, Fsmith. It’s already acquired Love Life through its Warner deal and given Raised by Wolves isn’t on the SoHo channels’ schedules for September, presumably it’s TVNZ OnDemand-bound.
Does this also mean Love Victor will end up on TVNZ OnDemand as well or Neon?
It’s a 20th Century Fox show, Leo, which means it’s distributed by Disney, so I would be picking TVNZ OnDemand as a box set.

No guarantee it will be TVNZOD, Leo, just speculation. The distribution of programmes in today’s peak TV era is incredibly complex and unpredictable. It turns out TVNZ didn’t acquire Love Life through its Warner deal but licensed it on the open market.
Times like this we want to hark back to the days when the broadcast networks had output deals which made it easier to find out where a show would end up. Interesting TVNZ had acquired Love Life on the open market, I wonder if that made it more expensive? Here’s hoping they have a decent budget to license more programming to beef up their service, which is facing more and more competition.
