Star Trek Blu-ray Goes Back to the Future

Universal Pictures NZ has withdrawn from sale the season-one Blu-ray of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The Paramount Pictures spin-off was to have gone on sale today but now will not be released for another month or so.
The problem is an “anomaly” with the 7.1 audio track on seven of the 25 episodes.
The six-disc set is still on sale in the US, where Paramount has opted to replace the faulty discs rather than withdraw all of them from sale.
Meanwhile, there’s no sign of seasons two and three of the original Star Trek being released here on Blu-ray.
Season one came out on Blu-ray a couple of years ago but no longer seems to be available and Universal, which distributes Paramount product in NZ, doesn’t have seasons two and three, which are out in the US, on its schedule for the foreseeable future.

I bought the four-episode promo disc back earlier this year. Must say picture and audio restoration are beautiful for a programme of this age. There’s something to be said for paying the extra money and making them on 35mm film rather than NTSC video.
Good to read, it looks great. STNG always looked grotty on TV and DVD, mainly because while it was shot on film, it was transferred to SD video for editing. Ups to Paramount for withholding the faulty discs unlike, say, Roadshow who perpetually screw film fans, eg. films in the wrong aspect ratio, ridiculous pricing for crap films …
