Still Wild About Harry
TVNZ 1’s The Brokenwood Mysteries barely out-rated Three’s umpteenth re-run of Men in Black in the core commercial demographic on Sunday while TVNZ 2 evergreen Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets drew twice as many viewers.
The Kiwi whodunit averaged just 32,126 viewers aged 25-54, the demo the networks most covet, to post a 1.57 rating/11.54 share.
Men in Black, which began half-an-hour earlier, drew 31,312 viewers (1.53 rating/10.37 rating).
The second Harry Potter movie started at 7.00 and overlapped both Brokenwood and MiB.
It averaged 65,543 viewers (3.19 rating/18.75 share) and at nearly three hours long was by far TVNZ 2’s most popular programme of the night.
Its lowest-rating was the 6.00 premiere of Holiday Homes in the Sun, which averaged 10,258 adult viewers (0.50 rating/2.83 share).
TVNZ 1’s pre-Brokenwood line-up was unassailable, with 1 News averaging 204,429 viewers (9.96 rating/53.95 share ) and Hyundai Country Calendar 164,502 (8.02 rating/46.83 share).
The Chase (5.30) was the next most watched show, followed by Sunday, Newshub Live at 6pm, Harry Potter, The Chase (5.00), Brokenwood, MiB and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
The biggest free-to-air peak demo shares were: TVNZ 1, 32.34; TVNZ 2, 15.56; Three, 10.82; Bravo, 4.61; Duke, 3.95; Prime, 2.77; Rush, 2.28; Eden, 1.62; HGTV, 0.93.
