Streaming Heads-Up: Gilded Age S4, Brothers, Reluctant Traveller S4

HBO Max today announced production of The Gilded Age’s fourth season was under way, even though filming’s already been reported on.

It will premiere later this year. Reads the blurb:

Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) changed society at a cost. Now, her family must reckon with the consequences as Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) seizes an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) forges a new path for herself, and Peggy (Denée Benton) works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.

“There is a lot to dissect in the logline, specifically the part about the Russells,” Deadline reports.

The family has been struggling immensely after so many years of what looked like success. All the pressure to be at the top has worn thin on Bertha and George (Spector), as was revealed in the final episode of Season 3.

The couple appeared to be heading to divorce court, but there may still be time to turn things around. Berta has built an untouchable empire, at least that’s how it seems, so maybe she doesn’t need George as much as she needs divorced women not be shunned from society.

Also, Curran getting a promotion following a season where Oscar van Rhijn (Blake Ritson) was sniffing around her character with the thought of a marriage of convenience on his mind is not to be overlooked. Lots of potential weddings in line for next season, Oscar and Turner, Marian and Larry (Harry Richardson), and of course, Peggy and Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica). We recently confirmed Donica was upped to series regular.

True Detective’s Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reunite for Apple TV’s art-imitating-life Brothers, which streams from September 23.

They play fictionalised versions of themselves whose friendship is thrown into chaos when they uncover a decades-old secret: they might actually be brothers. Reads the blurb:

After Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, he loads up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch. Apple TV has renewed The Reluctant Traveller With Eugene Levy for S4.

The new eight-episode season has Levy pushing himself even further by embracing unfamiliar experiences, unexpected challenges, and the kinds of adventures he once would have instantly and instinctively turned down.

“After three seasons on the show I have just about accepted, albeit begrudgingly, that saying ‘yes’ to new experiences is not necessarily a bad thing for me,” the says.

“So, I’ve committed to saying ‘yes’ a little more often this season. It’s a strategy I’m approaching with considerable caution.”
