Streaming Heads-Up: Widow’s Bay Shipshape, Slow Horses Let Loose

Ahead of Widow’s Bay finale on Wednesday, Apple TV has ordered a second season.

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV, said.

“It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it.”

As have critics, who have acclaimed it as “the year’s best new show,” “the show of the summer,” “one of the brightest surprises on streaming right now,” “unlike anything on TV” and a “perfectly executed,” “absolute gem of a TV show.”

It stars Matthew Rhys as a weak small-town mayor who wants to build a better future for his teenage son by turning the cursed island he runs into a tourist destination.

“Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” creator, showrunner and executive producer Katie Dippold said.

Fans of Apple TV’s best drama series, Slow Horses, can stream S6 weekly from September 16. Reads the blurb:

Season six sees the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.

Says Kristin Scott Thomas of playing the ice queen spy chief: “Sometimes, people have accused me of being frightening in my life.

“And I go: ‘What are you talking about? I’m not frightening at all.’ I’m terrified, so I can’t be frightening.

“And then I saw Slow Horses. Oh my God.”

Prime Video has revealed first-look images from its new drama series, The Love Hypothesis, which premieres on September 23.

It stars Lili Reinhart as Olive, a brilliant Ph.D. candidate focused on her future in academia. Reads the blurb:

But when she realises her best friend Ahn (Rachel Marsh) has fallen for her crush Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to prove she’s moved on.

What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.
