Swift Debut for Expanded Eras

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) will stream from March 15 on Disney+.

Today’s announcement coincided with the revelation that “Disney+ lost 1.3 million subscribers in the final quarter of 2023 amid a hefty price hike that went into effect last [spring], but managed to narrow its streaming business’ losses by $300 million during the October-December period”.

The two-hour, 45-minute theatrical release of Eras grossed more than $US260 million worldwide to become the top-selling concert film of all-time.

The expanded version will feature the concert in its entirety for the first time and include five new songs, from Cardigan to four acoustic tunes.

Disney didn’t disclose the titles of the four songs but based on “Variety’s analysis of Swift’s three shows at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium that were shot for the concert film but not included in the original cut, those are likely the four acoustic ‘surprise songs’ she performed: Death by a Thousand Cuts, Maroon, You Are in Love and I Can See You. (No Body, No Crime featuring Haim also has not been in either the theatrical or digital release of the film, but that wasn’t an acoustic version.)”

Adds Variety:

The digital release of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was released on Dec. 13, Swift’s birthday. That version, distributed by Universal Pictures, included three bonus songs that were not seen in theatres: Wildest Dreams, The Archer and Long Live. That pushed its official total runtime to three hours and one minute.

The Disney+ announcement came days after Swift broke Grammy records to win Album of the Year (Midnights) for the fourth time.

Said Disney CEO Bob Iger in a statement: “The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+.”
