Is Task the New True Detective?

A gritty new crime drama from the creator of Mare of Easttown will screen 8.30 Tuesdays on HBO from September 9.

Task stars Mark Ruffalo and Martha Plimpton as FBI agents investigating a spate of home invasion robberies in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia.

It was created by Brad Ingelsby, whose Mare of Easttown remains one of HBO’s benchmark dramas.

Tom Pelphrey (Ozark) co-stars as the mastermind behind the break-ins, who features in the latest trailer for the seven-part series.

“It looks exactly like the sort of HBO crime drama we’ve desperately missed,” Esquire magazine said after the first trailer.

“There’s certainly a True Detective feeling to the first preview, alongside a version of the Pennsylvania county pictured much like its recent setting in Apple TV+’s Dope Thief.”

Expect Task to surface a day earlier on Sky Neon and HBO Max, where it will stream closer to its US air date.
