The Bear and The Boys to Bow Out

Disney+ will premiere the fifth and final season of FX’s The Bear on June 26.

All eight episodes will be available to binge.

The news follows yesterday’s “surprise release” of Gary, a flashback episode co-written by and starring Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal.

It follows Richie (Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Bernthal) on a work trip to Gary, Indiana (discover the episode by searching for “Gary” on Disney+).

As for S5, it picks up the morning after Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie and Natalie “Sugar” (Abby Elliott) learn Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry and left them the restaurant. Reads the blurb:

With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant “perfect” might not be the food, but the people.

Also ending after five seasons is Prime Video’s The Boys on May 20 (view the trailer).

Promises the streamer: “It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

US fans will get to see the explosive series finale on 4DX cinema screens, similar to the theatrical strategy Netflix used to farewell Stranger Things and HBO Max did with the S2 finale of The Pitt.

In other streaming news:

Prime Video will premiere Legally Blonde prequel Elle on July 1 (see trailer).

The series introduces a pre-Harvard Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) as a 1995 high school student navigating tricky friendships, forbidden romance and questionable fashion choices.

Apple TV will stream the John Travolta-directed movie Propellor One-Way Night Coach on May 29. Reads the blurb:

Set in the golden age of aviation, a young airplane enthusiast Jeff (played by newcomer Clark Shotwell) and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) set off on a one-way cross country odyssey to Hollywood, which transforms a simple flight into the trip of a lifetime. Between airline meals, charming flight attendants (played by Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffmann), unexpected stopovers, larger-than-life passengers, and a thrilling glimpse at first class, the journey unfolds in moments both magical and unexpected, charting the course for the boy’s future.
