The World at War Blu-ray Goes Global

Home Cinema Choice has published an in-depth account of the HD restoration of the landmark documentary series, The World at War, for its Blu-ray debut.

The 1973 production is being repackaged for a Blu-ray release in the UK next month and in the US in November.

A NZ date still is to be confirmed but the good news is it should be within the next few months, too.

Earlier this year the company behind The World at War’s HD resurrection, FremantleMedia Enterprises, announced it would relaunch the series to “global audiences”.

The current DVD box set has sold more than 100,000 units and the new version will be available as an 11-disc DVD set and a nine-disc Blu-ray (both formats will be in 16:9 ratio for optimised viewing on modern widescreen displays).

The World at War continues to defy difficult times in the home entertainment sector, and indeed overall,” FME’s home entertainment & archive sales senior vice president Pete Kalhan says.

“And we’re looking forward to growing it further as we introduce a newly restored, Blu-ray version to audiences around the world.”

In NZ, FME DVDs are distributed by Roadshow Entertainment.
