The Zone Snares Hunters, Sharks and More Monkeys

The Zone will launch alien terrorist thriller Hunters within two days of the Syfy channel.

The new series will air 9.30 Tuesdays from April 12 and will be teamed with season two of 12 Monkeys from the following week.

From the producers of 12 Monkeys (Natalie Chaidez) and The Walking Dead (Gale Anne Hurd), Hunters stars Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek) as an FBI agent whose search for his missing wife leads him to a secret government unit that targets terrorists not of this world.

Briton Oldford (above), who guest starred as Peek-a-Boo in The Flash, and Childhood’s End’s Julian McMahon co-star.

Promises Syfy: “Hunters will push boundaries by redefining what makes a terrorist and offer a unique crossover twist between gritty crime drama and sci-fi thriller” and according to one report, the trailer “really hits the ‘War on Terror’ themes hard”.

Also new on The Zone next month will be Wizard Wars (7.30 Wednesdays from April 20) and Cinema Z Shark Month (9.30 Fridays from April 1).

The Hollywood Reporter dubbed the former, a Penn & Teller-fronted competition reality series, “fun, as its performers manage to mutate the mundane into magic” while the New York Times argued “the format doesn’t work, but the illusions do. It’s 58 minutes of pretty amusing magic.”

Cinema Z Shark Month pairs Sharktopus, Shark Week, 2 Headed Shark Attack, RoboShark and Frankenfish with re-runs of Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark, Avalanche Sharks and Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys.

Sounds like Channel Z has cornered the entire Asylum studio catalogue.
