Three Pulls 4.30 Newshub Live

Three’s afternoon bulletin Newshub Live at 4.30pm is going off-air indefinitely.

“Due to staffing challenges presented by Covid and general illnesses right now, Newshub Live at 4.30pm will be off-air until further notice,” a spokesperson says.

Even worse news for newshounds is its replacement: Extreme Couponing, a reality show in which Americans show how they save money with shopping coupons.

Quite surprised the bulletin has been paused, Philip. Have they made a commitment that the show will return and hasn’t been quietly axed? I’m also guessing this will affect the 11.30am News and possibly Newshub at 8pm. I thought the 4.30pm bulletin was building momentum and winning its time slot, they should reconsider this pause imho.

  2. Leo, from what I understand this “pause” was a last resort. They need to protect 6pm at all costs and therefore all resources are going that way. 4:30 becomes the easy bulletin to drop when you look at the way staffing works for Newshub’s bulletins. I will say taking off bulletins like TVNZ did with Tonight during lockdowns is a result of newsrooms long being asked to do more with fewer resources. At some point it breaks.

  3. I suspect pause means in TV Land speak it’s goodbye.
