Three to Air Epic ‘Vaxanation’ Effort

Three is rejigging its Saturday afternoon schedule to broadcast a six-hour “vaxanation” special.

Here’s the media release:

In its shared commitment to driving high Covid-19 vaccination rates in New Zealand, Discovery will broadcast the nation’s first-ever Vaxathon on Three this Saturday 16 October to help boost the uptake of vaccinations across New Zealand.

The Super Saturday Vaxathon aims to encourage all Kiwis, particularly young Māori, Pacific and those living with a disability, to get vaccinated urgently against COVID-19.

“We’re delighted to bring the Super Saturday Vaxathon to audiences across New Zealand this weekend,” said Juliet Peterson, Senior Director Programming, Discovery Australia and New Zealand.

“We’re committed to doing all we can to not only inform and entertain our audiences, but to engage and motivate our communities to get vaccinated and boost our nation’s immunity.”

The broadcast will feature Newshub presenters including Mike McRoberts, Melissa Chan-Green, Patrick Gower and Oriini Kaipara, The Project’s Jesse Mulligan, Kanoa Lloyd, Laura Tupou and Tony Lyall and other well known New Zealanders and health professionals live from COVID-19 vaccination sites across the country – including Kaitaia, Ōtara, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Ōtautahi / Christchurch and Porirua, Wellington.

The broadcast will also feature a live progress data board, showing how each region’s vaccination rates are tracking. It builds on Three’s existing efforts such as The Project’s Wheel Of Immunity which is supported by audiences and the business community to support New Zealand’s vaccine drive.

Newshub presenter Oriini Kaipara says “Māori have always had a strong sense of community and a shared desire to protect our whakapapa. While conversations about vaccines can be tricky in some whānau, the Vaxthon is a great opportunity for Māori to kōrero with the experts in a positive environment.”

The Super Saturday Vaxathon is supported by the Ministry of Health and Pango Productions and will be broadcast live on Three from 12:00PM to 6:00PM.

  1. I’m surprised it’s not also on TVNZ but I guess they figured they don’t need them. I wonder if there will be any big stars from overseas, they could beam in onscreen ? Oh well, I have had my first vax and my second one is scheduled for October 27th ?
