Friday Afternoon Football on Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime has kicked off live streaming of American football with alternative commentary tracks — but the catch is you can only watch it live, from 1.25pm each Friday.

Playback is not possible for the Thursday Night Football games, the first of which streamed today.

Scheduled for next month are:

  • New England Patriots vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (October 6)
  • Philadelphia Eagles vs Carolina Panthers (October 13)
  • Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders (October 20)
  • Miami Dolphins vs Baltimore Ravens (October 27).

If you’ve the time to spare on a weekday afternoon, you can choose from two commentary options: play-by-play or analytic.

Also new to Amazon Prime next month will be supernatural anthology series Lore (from October 13) and season three of Red Oaks (from October 20).

In other Amazon Prime news:

➢ Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino (Gilmore Girls) have entered a multi-year deal with Amazon Studios to develop projects following its unprecedented two-season green light of upcoming Amazon Original Series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (in which House of Cards’ Rachel Brosnahan plays a 1958 New York City housewife who discovers a talent for stand-up comedy that leads her to a spot on Johnny Carson’s couch).

➢ Season two of The Grand Tour is just around the corner and Amazon Prime Video is inviting subscribers to apply to be on the studio guest list. Applications for tickets to the studio recordings close October 3 at primevideo.com/GTTickets.

➢ Variety reports Amazon is “dramatically ramping up” its production for next year, moving forward with three new high-concept sci-fi series that represent a significant production investment from the studio, which already is in preproduction, production or post on 67 TV series and 20 movies around the world.

I’m actually quite impressed by Amazon Prime Video even more when they are on Apple TV, hope it’s not too far away 🙂

  2. Interesting – US5m/game and its only streamed with no playback. It will be interesting to see Amazon’s appetite for renewing this next season.
