TiVo to Go 3D in NZ

Sky TV and free-to-air broadcasters may not be ready to embrace 3DTV but TiVo has confirmed it will soon offer 3D content on demand.

Across the Tasman, TiVo has become the first DVR or PVR to handle time-shifting of 3D broadcasts, starting with the State of Origin series and continuing with the FIFA World Cup.

It’s also revealed plans to offer 3D downloads over its CASPA service from next month.

Initially, only shorts and movie trailers will be in 3D but 3D movies and documentaries are in the works.

A TiVo spokeswoman told ScreenScribe.tv that TiVo hopes to provide 3D downloads in NZ “in the coming months” but couldn’t specify timing or content.
