Tonight in HD: April 13

SoHo Highlight: Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) HBO’s 2007 dramatisation of the US government’s notorious Indian massacre won six of its 17 Emmy Award nominations. But it would have made a better mini-series than movie, given it tackles only the last two chapters of Dee Brown’s book. The New York Times thought it “seamlessly acted and produced” but as an allegory for the war in Iraq, “this project was doomed to overreach and to sermonise” (the screenplay is by Path to War’s Daniel Giat). Similarly, the Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield website points out many historical inaccuracies but acknowledges “the film contains episodes of brilliance and astounding beauty“. Anna Paquin, Aidan Quinn, JK Simmons and Wes Studi star. ✮✮✮✮

Sky Movies Greats Premiere: The Bourne Identity (Sky 22, 8.30, 5.1) Matt Damon plays an American in Paris with amnesia who finds himself in the middle of two assassination plots masterminded by the CIA. It's a taut, intelligent thriller with sparing but suspenseful setpieces and a storyline that borrows from director Doug Liman's own life, or at least his father's (Arthur L Liman worked in the National Security Council under Oliver North and figured in the Iran Contra scandal). (2002) ✮✮✮✮
