Tonight in HD: April 26

SoHo Highlight: Top Boy (Sky 10, 8.30) In part three of four about drug trafficking on an East London housing estate, time is running out for Dushane and Sully to find Kamale and repay their debt to Raikes, Ra’Nell turns to Leon to help Gem, and Heather dreams of her new life. As The Arts Desk observed: “[Creator Ronan] Bennett’s feat is that he hasn’t written Top Boy as a liberal cri de cœur or a Hackney social workers’ manifesto. He has simply depicted a hideously believable environment and peopled it with brutally plausible characters, to the point where you could cry at the realisation that chunks of our dilapidated nation really look like this. Inventive colour grading and Brian Eno’s coolly evocative music lend the project a cinematic weight.” Or, as The Times put it: “This is the world behind the headlines, where stabbings and shootings are the currency of everyday life. The riots that took place in the summer were accompanied by all manner of soul-searching about a broken Britain. Well, here it is. Dramas such as this, which address the wreckage of Britain in human terms and focus on real people rather than ‘those people’, are a small step towards a solution.” ✮✮✮✮

Home & Away (TV3, 5.30) Sasha’s rattled at her trial; Casey tells April to back off; Ruby’s dismayed when Romeo skips the championship. ✮✮

Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) Monica and Rachel will do anything to get their old apartment back from the guys; Ross asks Emily to marry him. ✮✮✮✮

Shortland Street (TV2, 7.00) Nicole helps Lana out of her bind, and Callum rages against the machine. ✮✮

Once Upon a Time (TV2, 8.30, 5.1) Emma keeps an eye on Mr Gold when it looks like he’s out for vigilante justice after being robbed; Belle agrees to a fateful deal to save her town from the horrors of the ogre war. ✮✮

The Finder (TV3, 8.30, 5.1) Bones’ Dr Jack Hodgins, from the Jeffersonian team, seeks Walter’s help to find evidence that could expose extraterrestrial activity. ✮✮

Has anybody noticed Coro St in HD 26th & 27th April? I know Coro has been shot in HD for a while but TVNZ has decided not to broadcast it in HD.

  2. TVNZ is still no closer to screening Coro in HD, despite the 50th anniversary episodes being imminent. “We are more and more moving everything into HD,” a spokeswoman say. “I am sure that in the future Coro St will be HD – just not right now.”
