Tonight in HD: December 12

SoHo Highlight: Game of Thrones (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) The Lannisters press their advantage over the Starks; Robb rallies his father’s northern allies and heads south to war. “The bloodiest episode yet sees great houses going to war, dark things stirring in the north, and a character with the unfortunate name of Shagga,” wrote The Daily Telegraph. “The trouble with reviewing Game of Thrones is that every episode, the temptation is to start the review with a phrase like ‘This week, it really kicked off’. But then you realise you thought that last week. Every episode dials the levels of brutality, intrigue and sheer epic fantasy up a few more notches, finding time to introduce and flesh out more characters and add depth to its world as it does so.” As The Guardian noted: “One of the most interesting things about this series remains its willingness to overthrow convention … It’s impossible to tell who will be left victorious at the end.” The Pointy End was the second episode that Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin penned. ✭✭✭✭
