SoHo Highlight: Boss (Sky 10, 9.45, 5.1) “After four weeks of severely uncomfortable sex scenes, political jostling and secretly dealing with diseases, Boss took an interesting turn in this week’s episode, Remembered,” the Better With Popcorn blog said. “For most of the episode’s 52 minute runtime, we were led to believe that what was going on in the episode was an isolated event — just a bad day at the office for Tom Kane (Kelsey Grammer) and his staff, dealing with a political crisis. A look into the life of a local politician. But by the end of it all, the show took a swift right turn that was both unexpected and welcome, that seemed to not only set up the plot of the show for the rest of the season, but possibly heading into the already-announced season two.” Declared the AV Club in its B-rated assessment: “It’s official: Boss is improving.” ✭✭✭✭

: The Walking Dead (TV2, 9.30) “A significant late plot development, awkward sex and perhaps the most gratuitously gory zombie kill yet” – that’s how Time magazine summed up this episode, which features “one of the most grotesque sequences the series has given us so far … It’s a hell of a gruesome scene. The show has reached a nice rhythm where it oscillates between gory, kill-heavy episodes (like last week’s three dozen or so) and stretches of plot and character development.” Said critic Alan Sepinwall: “This was not an hour likely to appease those of you who feel season two is lacking any sense of urgency or larger story arc. But it at least offered some baby steps in terms of the character development.” ✭✭✭✭

Home & Away (TV3, 5.30) April struggles to get a straight answer from Heath; Brax finds a way to pay back Leah. ✭✭

Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) Phoebe dates a man who thinks he’s stalking her twin sister; Monica uses her free time after breaking up with Richard to make jam while considering having a baby alone. ✭✭✭✭

Shortland Street (TV2, 7.00) Harry learns her lesson; Hunter finds a new project; Bella and Luke play cat and mouse. ✭✭✭

Two and a Half Men (TV2, 7.30) Trying to rebound from his recent separation, Walden goes looking for Mrs Right, while Alan has an opportunity to reconcile with his on-again, off-again girlfriend Lyndsey. ✭✭

The Almighty Johnsons (TV3, 8.30) The Go Gods comedy/drama returns in an earlier slot. Since we last saw the Johnsons, things haven’t gone swimmingly with the Quest to find the Goddess Frigg. Now they discover there’s no such thing as a mother’s unconditional love. ✭✭✭

SPCA Rescue (TV One, 8.00) The SPCA struggles to save a kitten stuck down a stormwater drain; two dogs in terrible condition shock animal welfare officers; an inspector tries to help a hoarder whose house has been taken over by cats. ✭✭✭

2 Broke Girls (TV2, 8.00) Max gets a taste of Caroline’s posh life when they break into her former townhouse to retrieve her night guard. ✭✭

Winners & Losers (TV One, 8.30) Sophie hides her fear; Jenny gets some shocking news about a loved one; Bec must decide where her heart lies; Frances makes amends. ✭✭

The Big Bang Theory (TV2, 8.30) When Raj is upset he’s the only one of the four guys who’s not in a relationship, Penny sets out to find the perfect date. ✭✭

Happy Endings (TV2, 9.00) Penny’s perpetually optimistic mum, Dana, pays a visit. When Penny finds out she’s hiding some less-than-happy news, she decides it’s time to give her mum a reality check. Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally guest stars. ✭✭

Harry’s Law (TV One, 9.30) A former prosecutor is accused of aiding in the kidnapping of a girl, and Harry must defend him against his former boss. ✭✭

Sons of Anarchy (TV3, 9.30, 5.1) While Clay and Jax campaign with club members for the Mexican-cartel deal, the Feds think that they might have found a way to take SAMCRO down. ✭✭✭✭

Nikita (TV2, 10.30) Alex is sent on her first kill mission; Birkhoff discovers the shell programme that has been used to connect to Nikita in the outside world; Nikita is captured by Division. ✭✭✭

CSI: New York (TV3, 11.15, 5.1, R) When two bodies are discovered at the North and South ends of the city, Mac and the team deftly begin to navigate the trail of evidence left behind by the killer. ✭✭

Sky Movies Premiere: Country Strong (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) Achy-breaky heart drama about an aspiring songwriter and a faded country and western star who hook up to improve their prospects. Garrett Hedlund and Gwyneth Paltrow star. Said Empire: “C&W lovers will lap it up – look out for some stellar Nashville cameos – and there’s big-lunged uplift to see you through the cornball plot turns.” (2010) ✭✭
