SoHo Highlight: Dexter (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) Dexter finds help from an unexpected avenue while on the hunt for the Doomsday Killers and trying to stay one step ahead of the Homicide Division; Debra discovers something new about herself. The title of this episode is Get Gellar but it was get Dexter’s writers that was uppermost in most critics’ minds. “There you have it. The big twist. Of which the only good thing I can say is that at least it’s over and done with and we can now move on into less-predictable territory” (IGN); “this is simply storytelling at its worst and at its laziest” (TV Fanatic); “at all once, every element of the show seems out of whack, and there is a noticeable drop in the basic storytelling quality of the show” (The AV Club); “this has to be the most anticlimactic reveal not only in Dexter history, but could probably make a shortlist of the worst kept television show secrets ever” (TV Fanatic). ✭✭
Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) Monica cooks a gourmet meal for a restaurateur looking for a new chef. Unfortunately, he’s stoned and would just as well eat taco shells as her haute cuisine. ✭✭✭✭
Modern Family (TV3, 7.00, 5.1, R) Jay and Gloria step in to sort things out when a big fight between Claire and Phil leaves the latter in the dark about its subject matter. ✭✭✭✭
Movie: Journey to the Centre of the Earth (TV2, 8.30, R) This corny, goofy, gimmicky Jules Verne dramatisation is a good-natured but groan-inducing visual effects hoot (want to see a dino drool?). Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) and Anita Briem (The Tudors) star. (2008) ✭✭✭
Fringe (TV2, 2.30, R) The Fringe team travels cross-country to Seattle after learning of a mysterious incident involving a man who attacked his boss because he believed he was an evil ram-horned creature. ✭✭✭✭
