Tonight in HD: January 11
SoHo Highlight: The Killing (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) The cops regroup while Richmond goes up in the polls; Stan faces consequences for his ill-thought out actions, leaving Mitch alone to keep the family afloat. “This week’s episode, which after the absurd twists and turns of Stonewalled and Undertow, felt like a modest step in the right direction,” The AV Club said. “In fact, this felt like the episode we should have had five weeks ago, before The Killing, to paraphrase Salon critic Matt Zoller Seitz, morphed from Homicide: Life on the Streets into Scooby Doo.” ✭✭✭
Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) Joey falls for Phoebe’s twin sister, Ursula, making Phoebe feel neglected; Chandler is conflicted when he is told to fire an employee he is attracted to. (Part one of two.) ✭✭✭✭
Modern Family (TV3, 7.00, 5.1, R) Cameron decides he wants to write a book celebrating the fact that Lily is adopted. However, during the process he makes a startling discovery. ✭✭✭✭
Falling Skies (TV2, 8.30) Hal comes up with a plan to rescue captured teenagers from the aliens, but it requires putting someone at risk; a sudden tragedy leads Anne to make a discovery which may affect Hal’s plan. If you’ve all but given up on this mini-series, consider The Guardian’s take on the first hour of tonight’s instalment: “This episode was tightly plotted and tense, with some great alien moments and characters who showed more than one facet of themselves. This was what this show should have been like from day one. I’ve seen next week’s [which airs back-to-back tonight] and it’s even better. Is this the sign that we’ve been waiting for? Is this how the show is going to be from now on? Or is it all a bit too little and a lot too late?” ✭✭✭
The Walking Dead (TV2, 10.30, R) Rick decides to go back to Atlanta to retrieve the bag of guns and save a man’s life; Lori and Shane must deal with the surprising return of someone they thought was dead. ” ✭✭✭✭
CSI (TV3, 11.10, 5.1, R) When a student is discovered murdered at Lindsey’s school, the investigation takes a sharp turn when the CSIs uncover an unlikely connection between the boy’s death and atrocities of the past. ✭✭
Sky Movies Premiere: Love & Other Drugs (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) The comedy/drama that made headlines for Anne Hathaway’s nude scenes has more going for it than titillation. But buried beneath the artfully posed, odd-couple romance between a Viagra salesman and a bohemian rebel with Parkinson’s disease is a better movie about corrupt pharmaceutical industry practices that’s only hinted at here. Jake Gyllenhaal co-stars; Edward Zwick directs. (2010) ✭✭✭
