Tonight in HD: January 12

SoHo Highlight: Treme (Sky 10, 9.30, 5.1) Season finale: Toni’s concerns about Creighton turn to anger; a funeral procession offers its mourners a chance to reflect on the events of the last year in New Orleans. Said Time: “Treme finished its first season with a finale that very much mirrored its pilot: sprawling, wide-ranging, deliberately paced, and — at about 83 minutes — expansive.” Concurred The AV Club: “The aftermath of Cray’s death is just one of the threads at play in the supersized finale, I’ll Fly Away, but like the rest of this fine, heartfelt episode, it was perfectly judged.” (Season two starts in this slot next week.) ✭✭✭✭✭

Chuck (TV2, 10.30)

Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) After spraining her ankle, Rachel, who has no insurance, cajoles Monica into trading identities so she can use Monica’s coverage. (Part two.) ✭✭✭

Modern Family (TV3, 7.00, 5.1, R) In an attempt to avoid sitting through a classical music concert with Gloria and Manny, Jay feigns a previous engagement with Mitchell. ✭✭✭✭

Chuck (TV2, 10.30) To save the life of a former ally, Chuck must join forces with his greatest foe: Alexei Volkoff. Timothy Dalton and Linda Hamilton guest star. As The AV Club observed, Dalton’s Chuck contributions have provided “most of the highs of this uneven though often pleasurable fourth season. It’s tough for a show like this to keep improvising long narrative arcs when it’s perpetually on the brink of cancellation, but the Vivian Volkoff storyline tonight picked up the threads of previously abandoned plotlines and managed to assemble them into a Nerd Herd-flavoured stew.” ✭✭✭

Lie to Me (TV3, 11.00, 5.1, R) When Cal is hired to find a corporate spy at a pharmaceutical company, he discovers a conspiracy surrounding a new drug that could put thousands of lives at risk. ✭✭

Diplomatic Immunity (TV One, 11.35, R) Comedy about the misadventures at the consulate of The Most Royal Kingdom of Feausi. ✭✭✭

Mental (TV3, 11.55, 5.1) Jack treats a bipolar boy who’s obsessed with playing a video game that only exists in his own head. ✭✭
