Tonight in HD: January 23

Sky Movies Premiere: Faster (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) Vengeful ex-con Dwayne Johnson hits the road in his 40-year-old bad-ass Chev to pay back his brother’s killers, with junkie cop Billy Bob Thornton in hot pursuit. Faster is an edge-of-the-front seat thriller with fantastic stunts, premium production values, and writing of a higher calibre than you’d expect for a B-grade action vehicle. George Tilman Jr (Notorious) directs; Carla Gugino co-stars. (2010) ✭✭✭✭

Nurse Jackie (TV3, 12.05, 5.1, R) Veteran ER nurse Jackie Peyton bends the rules to create something good from a patient’s senseless death, while concealing her addiction to a pain killer she gets from her secret boyfriend, hospital pharmacist Eddie. TV3 is re-running this Edie Falco sensation from the beginning on the eve of season three being released on Blu-ray in the US; no word on when it will go on sale here, and expect it to be DVD-only given Sony didn’t offer seasons one and two on Blu-ray outside the US. ✭✭✭✭
