SoHo Highlight: Dexter(Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) Season finale: Dexter and the Homicide Division race against a lunar eclipse to catch the Doomsday Killers before their final gruesome act; Debra faces up to a new emotional reality. US reviews were mixed. “The personal stuff really resonated this season, particularly Deb’s big awakening,” The Atlantic Wire said. “Whatever happens, the reveal scene was terrifically done and was a bang-up way to help repair the damage of an otherwise unnecessary seeming collection of episodes.” In the middle was the Los Angeles Times: “The Travis Marshall storyline ended on a rather predictable note … [But] I loved the shocking twist and can’t wait to see what happens next between Dexter and Deb.” And at the other end of the spectrum, TV Guide: “The finale was 95 percent routine, a charge that could be aimed at the season as a whole, capped by the uninspired end of the Doomsday storyline.” ✭✭✭

Movie: Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (TV3, 7.30)  On his instructive commentary for the Blu-ray of this bigger-budget sequel, director Shawn Levy describes it as a “marriage of quick, sharp, comedic edge with a warm heart”. Less of the latter and more of the former could have made Museum 2 as impressive an exhibit as its virtuosic visual effects. These, along with a handful of ingenious creative flourishes, make the movie if not must-see at least less musty. Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and Steve Coogan star.
