Tonight in HD: July 13

Season Finale: Glee (TV3, 7.30, 5.1, F) Graduation is finally here, as McKinley High’s class of 2012 looks to the past and present while contemplating the future. “It turned out to be a solid, at times fantastic, season-closer where some of Glee’s general weaknesses turned out to be strengths,” Time magazine said. But Rolling Stone thought otherwise: “With a few exceptions (three words: Burt. Hummel. Beyoncé), the episode was a nonstop sapfest of too many tears and not enough nostalgia. And, when all is said and done, we were right back where we started: underdogs all the way.” As to who will graduate to season four, The Hollywood Reporter says “all 15 cast members are confirmed to return in some capacity, while it’s still unclear just how many episodes the swelling ensemble cast will appear in.” ✭✭✭✭

Season Finale: Vera (TV One, 8.30) DI Vera Stanhope sets out to retrospectively solve the murder of a teenage girl. As secrets and lies are exposed, Vera closes in on the truth and lays ghosts from the past to rest. Five Days’ Hugo Speer guest stars. After tonight’s episode, don’t expect to see this whodunit again in primetime on TV One. The network is pulling the four-part season midway because of lousy ratings for the premiere whereas in the UK it was popular enough to spawn a second four-part season. Clearly Brits weren’t put off by star Brenda Blethyn’s dowdy wardrobe. As she told The Daily Telegraph:  “I couldn’t care less about the way I look on screen. If you did, you’d never play the interesting parts.” ✭✭✭✭
