Tonight in HD: July 7

Sky Movies Premiere: Source Code (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) An American soldier wakes up on a Chicago commuter train with no idea of who he is and only eight minutes in which to defuse a bomb. It’s a scenario that plays out with Groundhog Day repetitiveness in this riveting thriller that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny but which leaves you debating its ethical dilemmas more than its plot holes. All the fast talk and flash tricks in Hollywood can’t disguise the latter but they provoke thought about what’s justified in the interests of the greater good, what price civil liberty in the war against terror, and the unintended consequences of high-tech. Speaking of which, the HD aerial shots of Chicago are extraordinary. Duncan Jones (Moon) directs Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga. (2011) ✭✭✭✭

As Rolling Stone said, 8 Mile taps “into the roots of Eminem and the fury and feeling that inform his rap”.
