Tonight in HD: March 10

SoHo Highlight: The Shadow Line (Sky 10, 9.35, 5.1) Bede starts an affair with Petra, Peter Glickman’s girlfriend, whilst Glickman himself, now posing as Paul Donnelly, a watch-maker in Dublin, lures Gatehouse to a showdown. “Over the course of its first four episodes, The Shadow Line has matured from an overwrought, rather confused melodrama plagued with florid verbosity into one of the BBC’s best thrillers in a very long time,” Cultbox argued. “In the fifth instalment, it gets even better.” But The Guardian still thought it too glum and confusing: “Everyone’s left in the dark in this excellent thriller, including the viewer.” ✭✭✭

Movie: Taking Woodstock (TV3, 10.40, 5.1) Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) remembers the summer of ’69 at Yasgur’s Farm — although not quite everyone who was there would recall it this way. As the Boston Globe quipped: “This is as safe and sweet a movie as you could make about America’s sex-drugs-and-rock ’n’ roll-est event.” (2009) ✭✭✭

The Secret Lives of Dancers (TV3, 4.30, R) It’s the final countdown to opening night as the RNZB move their lavish production onto the stage – and one dancer is in for the surprise of a lifetime. ✭✭✭✭

Keeping Up With the Joneses (TV One, 7.00) The family gathers for a very special Christmas, with Cristina’s baby nearly due. ✭✭

Terra Nova (TV3, 7.30, 5.1) When Elisabeth, Jim, Malcolm, and Taylor investigate radio silence at a nearby scientific outpost, they discover an outbreak of a mysterious virus causing memory loss, paranoia, and eventually death. Critic Alan Sepinwall’s caustic assessment of this episode sums up why Terra Nova was cancelled: “It takes a special talent to make a show about people going through a wormhole to dinosaur-infested prehistoric times inside an alternate time stream … and then make it this spectacularly dull.” ✭✭✭

Winners & Losers (TV One, 10.30, R) Jenny struggles to keep a dark secret from her siblings; Bec is forced to spend a weekend away with her mother; Frances reaches out to her sister; and Sophie finally admits she’s terrified of her stalker. ✭✭
