SoHo Highlight: Hell on Wheels (Sky 10, 9.30, 5.1) The Cheyenne derail a train; Durant dispatches Cullen and Elam on a mission of vengeance; Lily struggles to find her place in Hell on Wheels. The title of episode eight, Derailed, sums up its critical reception. The AV Club: “Hell On Wheels sometimes seems deranged. That’s what I liked best about it. Here’s what I find increasingly intolerable about it: it is conventional, in the laziest, safest, least interesting way imaginable, even as it keeps congratulating itself on its daring and edgy ballsiness.” WhatCulture!: “Whether it’s the lack of narrative focus, characters that fail to link to the story in any meaningful way, the clichés, or its non-existent sense of urgency, Hell on Wheels’ faults can all be boiled down to one major issue: lazy writing.” TV Fanatic: “It’s not that Hell On Wheels needs to redefine the western genre to be a good show. Rather, a bit more focus on a consistent story that doesn’t place its characters from one western themed plot to the next would do it wonders. The characters are clearly all in place, they just need to further establish those relationships among them and set up less contrived situations to deal with.” ✮✮✮

Sky Movies Premiere: Stan Helsing (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) Said the New York Times of this Scary Movie rip-off : “Essentially an excuse to recycle every horror movie cliché since Lon Chaney Jr. grew a muzzle … A detention hall filled with 14-year-old boys would probably demand greater sophistication.” (2009) ✮

Sky Movies Greats Premiere: Bad Company (Sky 22, 8.30, 5.1) Joel Schumacher (Trespass) directs Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock in an action-comedy about the street hustler twin of a murdered CIA agent who’s recruited to complete his brother’s mission. The result is slick, familiar fun that wears out its welcome. (2002) ✮✮
