SoHo Highlight: Hot Coffee (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) HBO documentary about what really happened to Stella Liebeck, the infamous Albuquerque woman who spilled coffee on herself and sued McDonald’s; as well as three other cases of people seeking justice through the American legal system. Variety dubbed it “an eye-opening indictment of the way big business spins the media and rigs the courts to protect itself from so-called”frivolous lawsuits … A solid if not especially cinematic public-interest exhibit on how citizens are losing access to America’s civil justice system … Should brew healthy debate, exploding the myth (cooked up by corporate lobbies) that taxpayers foot the bill for plaintiffs like Stella Liebeck, whom a jury awarded $2.9 million after McDonald’s served her a lava-hot java.” The Washington Post called Hot Coffee “extraordinary and determinedly persuasive … refreshingly unadorned or manipulated for artistic or tear-jerking effect. It winnows down complicated legal arguments and anecdotal cases with compassion and clarity.” (2011) ✮✮✮✮

Glee (TV3, 7.30, 5.1) Sue starts a smear campaign to take down her biggest competitor for the Congressional seat; Puck has a crush; Will and Shelby Corcoran encourage some friendly competition. "Glee was back on track in a big way with this week's Mash Off after two horrible episodes," Rolling Stone reckons. "While there were some glaring issues (though we're glad it was the case, it was as if last week's losing-my-virginity and school play plot lines never even happened), we are willing to look past them in honour of Glee celebrating its 300th musical performance with an hour full of strong songs. We've said it before and we'll say it again: we like our Glee with just enough ridiculousness, and this week had it." ✮✮✮✮
