Tonight in HD: November 20

SoHo Highlight: Boardwalk Empire (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) At a birthday party for Mayor Bader, Nucky’s attorney has a legal brainstorm that could turn the tide in Nuck’s election-rigging case; Jimmy and Mickey head to Philadelphia to solve a local liquor surplus; Nucky strikes an unlikely deal to get booze into Atlantic City; and Gillian recalls her “first time” with the Commodore. Observed The AV Club in its A- review: “Boardwalk Empire has been relatively chaste so far this season, so it was good to see a little return to decadence, both in Gillian’s heart-stopping seduction routine and in the wild scene at Ed Bader’s birthday, which could aptly be dubbed Tits At The Ritz.” IGN said the episode “effortlessly hits that sweet spot between advancing the plot while developing characters … moments both heartfelt and disturbing give shape to one of the season’s best instalments yet.” ✭✭✭✭

500 Days of Summer (TV3, 8.30)

Hellcats (TV2, 5.30) The Hellcats plan an ’80s party, complete with costumes and a musical number by Vanessa; Marti has conflicted feelings about Savannah and Dan spending the night together. ✫✫✫

Raising Hope (TV3, 7.00, 5.1) Under the impression that Maw Maw has passed, Virginia’s cousin, Delilah (Amy Sedaris in the first of two guest stints), makes an unannounced visit to claim her share of Maw Maw’s estate. Blog critics thought this one of the lesser episodes but it’s worth a look just to see Maw Maw greet customers at the grocery store: “Welcome. Ooh, you smell bad — deodorant is in aisle three.” Or: “Hey, honey, I hope you’re nice to your husband — ’cause he could have done a lot better.” Or: “Welcome. Sorry, we don’t sell chins.” ✫✫✫

Mike & Molly (TV2, 7.30)  Victoria involves Mike and Molly in her drama when her 30th birthday approaches. ✫✫

The Middle (TV2, 8.00) As a Mother’s Day gift, Mike and the kids try to give Frankie a day all to herself, with mixed results. ✫✫
